United Nations Counter-Terrorism-Strategy
The Role of the Office for Disarmament Affairs
The United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy was adopted by General Assembly resolution 60/288 in 2006, and states that terrorism "constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security".
UNODA is a member of the UN-system-wide Counter-Terrorism Implementation Task Force (CTITF) and a leading member of the CTITF’s working group on preventing and responding to weapons of mass destruction attacks. ODA has been given the task to develop, together with Member States, a single comprehensive database on biological incidents that is complimentary to the biocrimes database contemplated by the International Criminal Police (INTERPOL).
UNODA has developed a secure web-based pilot platform for data entry by Member States on a trial basis. UNODA is also working with Member States to update the roster of experts and laboratories as well as the technical guidelines and procedures, which are available to the Secretary-General for timely and efficient investigations of alleged use of chemical and biological weapons.
